Elliott doing her impression of the Wild Pony from her Disney Princess book. I think its from the Belle story. Absolutely love the excitement she has making this face.
and this is simply the best coffee. ever.

Into the Fog
Foggy day on the mountain. Was at Crystal Mountain riding for the day. I'm amazed by that place. Everyone must stick to the groomers there. They hadn't had a big dumping of new snow in 6 days, yet there was still plenty of it left. I don't think that the inbounds area is so big that people would miss the obvious spots for freshies. While I'm thankful to be making fresh pow slashes, it still seems weird to me. Oh, if you've never hit the Northway chair over at Crystal, go. I was only able to take one trip down it and it was a blast.

Seattle and the Olympics
Not an original idea, saw this somewhere on nasioc.com one late night and I wanted to give it a shot to see if I could recreate it. I can't find that picture anymore, but I like the result of what I got.
I've been wanting to do a car photo shoot in the parking garages over at Microsoft for a long time. I took this after the above picture when I finally got into work. I think the way the lighting is and with the pillars. I'm definitely going to have to find time to take some car pictures in the garage.

Me
My 2 and a half year old daughter drew this of me. I'm pretty excited about it. I love that she draws me like a Mr. Potato Head. She actually draws Carrie that way too. Sometimes she'll add bodies, but I enjoy these ones. Oh, its also one of the few times she draws me without ponytails.

Backhoe
I'm actually kind of proud of this one. I had been driving past this thing for a week or two with visions of shooting it. I envisioned the street light hitting it from a high angle and the backhoe bathed in shadows. This one actually turned out the way I saw it in my head. Maybe its not a masterpiece or will ever be hung on a wall, but I was thrilled to capture it the way I saw it.

Decorations
Ever procrastinate about doing something? For the longest time we've needed a table in our entry way. The wall was just too blank and needed something to give it some character. Well after 4 and a half years, Carrie finally found something for that wall. These chairs are sitting on that table. Oh, i'm not really sure how i processed this one. The wall is actually a bright lime-ish green.

Rain
Its winter and I think its just crazy that rain seems to be a rare occurance around here. This is Seattle and the rain just hasn't been here this year. Need more rain. er, need more rain and cold temperatures, especially in the mountains. This happened to snow season last year. started off great early on and then nothing for January through mid-February. So at least there is hope for this year still. C'mon God, give us that snow!

iPhone
This one is one of those 'oops, i forgot to take a picture' pictures. I was actually over at a friend's house for dinner and poker for the evening. I mean, seriously, how is this the picture that came out from it? I kind of like it for what it is anyway. I like the bokeh and the softness of the image.

Bistro
Similar to a recent post. I liked the way the light falls on this sign in my kitchen. Its kinda strange, you don't really seeing it falling this way. Its just more pronounced when you capture it with a camera.

DC Pure
Needed (wanted) some new kicks and really liked these. The lacing was inspired by one of my flickr contacts.

Flag
When doing this project, I've learned that its easier to take pictures of random things if you actually have a camera with you. Gas was being pumped into the car so off I went to shoot.

AJ
I swear AJ had to be blind after I was done taking pictures of him. I think I took quite a few before he was done with me. Look at those eyes though. Going to be breaking some hearts in the future for sure.

RSflection
One of my other hobbies/interests/money pits. The worst part about taking this photo was getting out of my car. The puddle was actually an inch or two deep and I was wearing Converse Chuck Taylors. Wet feet anyone? I do love how the reflection turned out though.

Rasta Figment
Craigslist is the financial devil for me. I'm always finding a lot of good deals on stuff. Its like an online garage sale that runs all year long. You can find all sorts of goodies. Camera stuff, snowboard stuff, mountain bike stuff etc. Also, this is the first post with my DIY lightbox. nothing like a cut up cardboard box and some white butcher paper to get the job done.

Dog Tired
My dog Lucy at the end of the day ready for bed. I think i was sitting on her bed when I took this actually.

How the light falls
What I like about this one is the way the light falls on the wall. It makes for some great textures.

faux macro
I'd been wanting to try one of these shots for a long time. Basically, I took my 50mm lens and turned it around. I had to hold it in while I took the picture. I think this would be way cooler on a tripod.

Wing
So I got lucky that per the clock on my camera, this one fell on 1/8. To us, this was the same day. When you travel for 24 hours straight, your days get kind of mixed up. I looked out the window and grabbed this photo. That blue sky was so rich I had to capture it.

Leavin on a jet plane...
I love seeing Elliott's curiosity. We'd seen a few jets already, but it still fascinated her. Shoot, it still fascinates me.
747s are big planes. The nice thing about paying for Elliott's ticket is that she doesn't take up a whole seat. It was nice having 2 and a half seats for me and Carrie. Of course, after being on a plane for 12 hours is a long time no matter how many seats you have. I can say that if you're headed over the Pacific Ocean, EVA is a pretty good airline. Its way better than any of the US airlines.

Intramuros
Following are several photos taken during a tour through Intramuros in Manila, Philippines.
Church Door in Intramuros
Church Door Detail
Streets of Intramuros
Spanish Manuel in Intramuros
Contrast on the Calesa
I really like the contrast in this picture. Not only of the photo, but between the Calesa (horsedrawn carriage) and the motor vehicles. Between the jeepney and the cars.

Elliott sleeping
I love how her face is squished and her lips are all mushed like that. You're going to see a lot of Elliott over the next year.
This is my own project so I'm going to add another picture from the same day.
Private Pier
When I grow up, I want to have my own pier that juts out into the sea. Love the PI. The clouds were pretty neat in this photo as well.

The past and the present
I thought this was a good moment to capture the past and the present sharing space together.

Mangoes
Was walking around Cagayan de Oro with the family and saw this stack of mangoes. The rest of the family was picking out some fruits to take home.
Last year wasn't my best year in photography. I wasn't into it as much and it often took a back seat to other hobbies and things going on my life. As a result of that, my photography got a bit stale in my opinion. This year I'm going to take the reins and put more focus on growing as a photographer.
I’ve read on various discussion forums about Picture a Day projects. For a year you take a photo each day. There’s all sorts of themes and subjects people do. For me, I’m not going to go that route. I am going to go with what I’m feeling for the day. Some days will be creative works, others will be documentation for something that happened that day. Some of them are going to be last minute ‘I forgot to take a picture’ – pictures. The hope is that forcing myself to have a camera in my hands at least once a day will force me to think creatively and see more photo opportunities. Notice that I just said “a camera”. It doesn’t have to be my dSLR (Canon 20d). It can come from one of my point and shoot cameras or even from my cell phone. The camera is just a tool to capture the vision.
So with that…
